Northern Beaches

On the first day with a car, we drove to check out the Northern Beaches - first up Palm Beach.

Buying a Car, South Head & dinner @ Fionas

Today we took the ferry to Rose Bay where we bought a car!


Its a 2001 VW Golf - black with a sunroof - but only had 47,000 km on it!


Now that we have a car, we can drive places so we drove to the next bay over and checked out the South Head.

And while outside we saw a possum climb a tree.

Balmain

Before we buy our car today, we decide to take the ferry to Balmain and check it out. Here's the view as you approach, then Mike on the ferry terminal. Balmain is a penninsula so its easier for us to approach by ferry (1 stop from McMahons Point) instead of driving from the city.



Next, you walk up the hill from the ferry stop, past lots of eateries & the London Hotel (pub) and you get to the Balmain Market.





From the market you're now in the center of Balmain with lots of shopping and choices for breakfast!

Honeymoon Bay



We're off the peninsula at Friendly Beaches.



We stopped off for a picnic lunch in Richmond which is an old history village in the Coal River Region. There's Richmond Gaol (Australia's oldest convict jail which operated from 1825-1840). Richmond's most famous landmark is Richmond Bridge, built in 1823, around the time of the town's first settlement. It is Australia's oldest bridge still in use.

Wineglass Bay, Tasmania

Today we did the Hazard Circuit Walk around Wineglass Bay. First great view - Coles Bay.


These architect students built this bench. We had to try it.


After 40 minutes you appear here -- a view of Wineglass Bay. The Bay was named for its shape as well as for the color of the water (The water was full of blood from killing whales in the bay when Captain Cook first arrived.)



We walked down to the beach and I thought I saw a bunny but it was a baby wallaby!


On Wineglass Bay - white sands and clear water.



And a wallaby on the beach!




Then you walk across the isthmus to the other side of the peninsula.




And you come out on Hazards Beach




And we saw a few more wallabies...

Our next walk was to the lighthouse looking out at the Island.


And a walk to Sleepy Bay.
