Manly

Today we went to Manly... here we are outside our apartment.

We were cycling in Northhead National Park and you have to be careful not to hit a bandicoot (4 died so far in 2008 - although we saw one that was run over on the way back).


Out towards Northhead Point. Can you see Sydney way in the right corner?


Its windy at the point. There's a woman from a Marine Research Institute who has spotted 12 humpback whales already this morning from here!

Sculpture by the Sea

We went to Bondi Beach to do the Sculpture by the Sea walk to Tamarama Beach.

Blue Mountains - horseback riding

Today we head west to the Blue Mountains for some horseback riding. Andrea organized the group outing and got us some great weather too!


Jen's on a horse called Banjo. Turns out he's quite a biter.

We rode through eucalyptus groves on the edge of the mountains. The Blue Mountains are a bit like the Grand Canyon... where you start is on the top of the mountain and you look down into the ravines.

The Three Sisters at Echo Point in Katoomba -
The Aboriginal legend has it that 3 sisters (Meehni, Wimlah & Gunnedoo) lived in the Jamison Valley as members of the Katoomba tribe. These beautiful young ladies had fallen in love with three brothers from the Nepean tribe, yet tribal law forbade them to marry. The brothers were not happy to accept this law and so decided to use force to capture the three sisters causing a major tribal battle.

As the lives of the three sisters were seriously in danger, a witchdoctor from the Katoomba tribe took it upon himself to turn the three sisters into stone to protect them from any harm. While he had intended to reverse the spell when the battle was over, the witchdoctor himself was killed. As only he could reverse the spell to return the ladies to their former beauty, the sisters remain in their magnificent rock formation as a reminder of this battle for generations to come.
